北京时间9月18日，北汽新能源与Meta公司合作的亚琛研发中心在德国亚琛挂牌成立，这是继硅谷研发中心后，北汽新能源的第二家海外研发中心，主要承担增程式电动汽车动力系统研发，专注提升续航里程。预计首款北汽新能源增程式电动汽车于2017年上市。

不同于硅谷研发中心主攻电动汽车、电池以及车载信息系统的研发，北汽新能源亚琛研发中心现阶段的重要使命，就是解决用户对纯电动汽车的痛点问题——续航里程。北汽新能源与Meta共同合作增程式车型平台项目，通过开发增程式电动汽车动力系统，提高新能源车续驶里程，亚琛研发中心将提供可靠的技术支持和保障。
